Nick Adinolfe is the inventor of The "A" Clamp and owner of LNR Industries. As a municipal sanitary sewer employee and former construction worker for companies that installed sanitary sewer systems in the Western New York area in the 1980s, he saw the problem of leaking riser / cleanout pipes all too often. They were leaking due to the hydraulic force of the freeze-thaw cycle pulling the pipe out of the cast iron P-trap. When sent to repair these separated pipes he was given poor solutions to the problem.
Using a backhoe to pound the pipe back into place was not sufficient, it just cracked the pipe and didnt make sure the seal was re-established. Gluing the pipe while installing it also was not sufficient, the seal held but the riser / cleanout pipe cracked. In general gluing underground is not a good practice.
After some thought he devised a very simple clamp that allowed some movement by the riser / cleanout pipe but also secured the seal. The A" Clamp was born.
Getting a patent on The A" Clamp struck Nick as a necessity, he knew his idea was solid and believed the market for it was huge. In 1995 the patent was issued and now municipalities are beginning to write it into their building codes.
Money is being saved and the environment has a little more protection.
